I am having a problem installling GEOS 2.0 with my Jiffy DOS enhanced C64 and
1541 disk combo. When it is about to display the desktop for the first time,
it freezes up with a blank screen. On subsequent boots, it freezes up with a
blank screen right af ter it boots. Has anyone found this same problem and/or
its solution?

Matthew,
I don't have JiffyDOS, but am not surprised that it collides with the Turbo
routines built into GEOS. If anyone else here knows of a solution, I hope
they'll chime in.
In the meanwhile, is there some way to temporarily disable Jiffy, and does
it do any good for you?

Hmm. I don't know about Jiffydos with the c64, but as I recall somebody I know
has Jiff in a 128 & uses Geos.... I may be remembering wrong. I'll check
though. <Have you trieinstructing the drive to be nonjiff & then flipping the
off switch? or just the drive off command or just the switch? Somtimes
incompatibility can be avoided by any one or ONLY one of those combination>
Have you tried phoning the company that makes Jiffy? They might have a
suggestion.

I use JiffyDOS for my C64. I have an Enhancer 2000 drive and an Excelerator
Plus (also known as the FSD-2) drive. Originally, I would get a lot of "I"
errors on the Enhancer when I would be loading my Geos. The FSD drive would
work perfectly with GEOS. Anyway, I bought JiffyDOS when GEOS was updated to
v2.0. Now both drives work fine in the GEOS environment. One way to test the
JiffyDOS ROM was to remove all peripherals connected to the drive and only have
the monitor, drive and computer connected. With the C64 in JiffyDOS mode (which
should show up on the screen after you power-up), you should turn on the disk
drive and type in "@" from the keyboard. The message that returns from the
drive should have the name "JIFFYDOS" in the drive's mode setting. If this
message doesn't appear, you turn off the drive; set the switch on the drive's
ROM to the other position and turn the drive back on. The second message should
indicate that the drive is in the JIFFYDOS mode. This will only be true if the
computer itself is in the JIFFYDOS setting.
JiffyDOS can be disabled by placing the switch in the position which will
give you the original power up message on the screen. Likewise on the drive.
I've had no problems installing my DOS ROMs and the instructions that came with
the chips were pretty clear, I thought.
If you're still having trouble with the system after double checking to
make sure that no pins are bent on the ROM and that nothing is interfering with
the switch, you can send it back to Creative Micro Designs for replacement
under warranty. I hope I've been of some help. Let me know how you make out.

Hi Matthew:
I have JiffyDOS in the 128/1571 and have not had the problems you've
experienced when using GEOS 64 v2.0.
